Quest for the True Cross – the opening chapter in Jerusalem

This week sees the global launch of Quest for the True Cross – my historical fiction about an English Templar Sir William de Mandeville and a dangerous quest he must embark on – you can download the book HERE

The book starts in Jerusalem with the Knights Templar returning after a disastrous defeat at the hands of the Saracens.  They trudge, battered and wounded, to the Temple Mount. In those days, today’s Al-Aqsa mosque was the Temple of Solomon and headquarters of the Templars.

Nearby was the Dome of the Rock – then converted into a church and known as the Templum Domini. The Augustinian canons occupied a building that was subsequently demolished after Saladin retook Jerusalem.

I visited in March this year to help describe accurately the first scene in the book.
