Bamburgh St Aidan

St Aidan's church was built by the Normans in the 12th century although a place of worship has existed on the site since 635 when Aidan built his church (no trace of this wooden church is to be found other than a beam in the Baptistry), however the site of Aidan's death is marked by a shrine within the present church.

If you're visiting England - don't just do London or the surrounding counties, venture into the north where apart from some great cities - there's also a wealth of medieval churches. This blog is a great intro and I recommend.
