If you recall, the three synoptic gospels say that a man called Simon of Cyrene offered to carry the cross for a while as Jesus wearied. This is the fifth station. On the wall next to the chapel marking this event is a hand print which medieval pilgrims believed was the hand print of Jesus himself as he held himself up against the wall. Pilgrims today still put their hand on the exact spot.
