A Roman high street in ancient Gadara

a brown concrete post

I have just returned from a ten day visit to Jordan – a country with an amazing history sandwiched between Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Over the next few blog posts, I’m going to share the incredible places I visited. Here are some more images from the black basalt Roman ruins of Gadara.

What an incredible place Gadara was. You could still make out the main high street and the remnants of the shops that once lined it. And a large basilica later converted into a Byzantine church. This is the city where Jesus cured two “demoniacs”. If you ever get to Jordan, make sure to divert here and see the very distinctive black basalt remains.
