Top TV presenter Bradley Walsh is about to take on the mysteries of Ancient Egypt in a new TV series: Egypt’s Cosmic Code – broadcasting on Sky History. It’s a rollercoaster ride through all those theories about how the pyramids were built and the fascinating beliefs of this long lost civilisation.

Egypt’s Cosmic Code charts Bradley Walsh’s first trip to Egypt in search of answers to some of Ancient History’s biggest mysteries – who built the pyramids, why and how? Could Ancient Egyptians have supernatural abilities, and is the Great Sphinx much older than we think? This three-part series sees Bradley fulfil a lifetime’s ambition to visit the monuments of Ancient Egypt and try to understand how it could have been possible to produce such ‘wonders of the ancient world’ 4,500 years ago.
Bradley was apprenticed as an engineer to Rolls Royce in his youth and has retained a lifelong interest in ancient engineering. As he admits, the sheer scale and age of the Great Pyramid left him wondering who really built this incredible monument, dated by most historians to around 2,600 BC. So, he journeyed to Egypt to resolve this conundrum.
His guides out there were experienced Egyptologists: Dr Meredith Brand and Dr Arto Belekdanian. They set out to prove to Bradley that the pyramids, obelisks, temples, and the – of course – the Sphinx, were all built by the Ancient Egyptians. My role was to present the alternative theories that have become hugely popular in recent times – from Erich von Däniken’s ancient aliens theory to Graham Hancock’s belief that what we see at Giza is far older than 2,600 BC.
While I’m not endorsing any of these views, it’s fascinating to consider why millions of people are convinced that the Great Pyramid was built with the help of either extraterrestrials or a super-advanced civilisation that disappeared during the last Ice Age. Add to that the thesis advanced by the legendary inventor Nikola Tesla that the Great Pyramid was some kind of electricity power generator.
