Quest for the True Cross is a thrilling Templar novel that immerses you in the chaos of the Crusades through the eyes of our intrepid hero – William de Mandeville. Join him as he seeks the stolen True Cross of Jesus, taken from Edessa by the Saracens. Can he locate this sacred treasure and restore it to its rightful owners, the church?
We see William arrive with a Templar and crusader army before the walls of Al-Usbunna – a city in modern Portugal we now call Lisbon. But back in 1147, it was a Muslim city, part of the global Islamic caliphate. But the Christian ruler of the new kingdom of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, is determined to take Al-Usbunna – and make it his capital.
William arrives and the siege explodes into action. For weeks on end, the walls are pounded and from underneath, sappers dig dangerous tunnels to try and undermine the foundations. Alongside our Templar hero are his friends, Pathros and Nicholas…

Pathros is the trusty companion of William. He is a Turcopole in the Templar order – that is a paid soldier who has been recruited from the Syrian people. His family have been Christian from the earliest centuries of Christianity but they have faced discrimination and hardship. Aside from being an excellent warrior, he is also a man of great learning – and a skilled physician.

Nicholas accompanies William and Pathros on their adventures. He is a Saxon boy from a dirt-poor background in an English village. William has to rescue him from an ordeal by fire after he is accused of theft and faces the death penalty if he fails the ordeal. William lacks the wisdom of Pathros but he has the sharp instincts of a thief. These will come in useful as they seek to retrieve the true cross.
