Did the Knights Templar possess the Holy Grail?

How is it that millions of people assume the Knights Templar possessed the Holy Grail when there is no evidence for this? Mainstream historians tear their hair out at claims the Templars were on some kind of grail quest. So, how has the link been made – between the knights and this sacred chalice?

The answer is the account of the King Arthur story by the medieval German writer Wolfram von Eschenbach. The guardians of the grail castle are referred to as the ‘Templeise’ though in his book the grail isn’t a cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper but a magical stone. In more recent times, the 1980s best-selling book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, and Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, popularised the Templar-Grail link.

Medieval studies expert Dr Steve Tibble and TV historian Tony McMahon discuss the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail in the latest edition of the podcast series, Talking Templars. Watch it below and share your views and comments.
